IBM is offering a new certification exam for the use of their Lotus Connections networking software.
The test, like most of IBM’s exams, is multiple choice, and offers those who take it the chance to earn the new professional IT certification title: “IBM Certified System Administrator - IBM Lotus Connections 2.0.” This signifies not only that you took and passed the test, but that you spent time studying and know your way around the networking software.
The certification exam consists of three major topics or themes: how to install and configure Connections, how to manage and maintain the network, and how to ensure that network security is top notch. Connections is quite a sprawling program, and there are a number of exams that involve its mastery.
It’s a social, business, and information networking tool, so your goal in using it is going to inform how you learn to use it. If you’re just trying to administer a Lotus Connections network alongside other networks, it’s different from if you’re trying to use the tools a Connections network provides in order to develop a broader company-wide vision.
That would be more of a IBM Certified Developer. However, this exam simply teaches how to be a Certified System Administrator for the program. How to install, how to maintain, and how to keep it secure.
It is a relatively short, simple test, giving you ninety minutes to solve 56 multiple-choice questions. 75% is the passing rate, which in this case translates to 42 questions right to pass.
IBM offers free test guides and practice tests at their website, which are always extremely useful. The test is likely to cost about $200 USD, so it would be a good idea to study up and make sure you’re prepared before taking the plunge and taking the test!
